Overnight With Tank, Gunner, Bella, Johnny & Simon – Round Two!

Returning to a home full of furry friends is always a treat—but returning to this group? Pure joy. I recently completed my second overnight stay with Tank, Gunner, Bella, Johnny, and Simon, and just like before, they made me feel like part of the pack the moment I walked through the door.

Let me introduce (or reintroduce) this adorable crew:

Tank, the little chihuahua mix with the big personality, immediately took on his usual role as snack supervisor. He doesn’t miss a beat when it comes to treat time—he has a signature “happy dance” that kicks off the second I reach for the treat jar. Watching his tiny paws shuffle and his tail wiggle is something I could replay all day. He may be small, but Tank runs the show when it comes to routines and keeping things in order.

Gunner, the husky mix and protector of the pack, was just as loyal and loving as ever. His nightly perimeter checks are no joke—he does a full inspection of the backyard and takes his role very seriously before he settles in for the night. Once he’s satisfied that all is secure, he becomes a big cuddle bug, melting into belly rubs and leaning in for affection like a gentle giant.

Bella, the hound mix, is a ball of happy energy. She and Gunner spent a lot of time chasing each other around the yard and burning off that classic hound energy. Bella has a goofy, playful spirit, and she always seems to find ways to get Gunner in on the fun. Her expressive eyes and floppy ears are irresistible—especially when she’s begging for “just one more minute” outside.

And then there are the cats, whose quiet company adds a lovely calmness to the home.

Johnny, the three-legged Siamese, continues to amaze me with his independence and confidence. He loves spending time outdoors, basking in the sun and patrolling the backyard like a little king. Despite his physical limitations, Johnny moves with such grace and ease that you forget he’s any different. He always checks in for his head scratches before heading off on his next mini adventure.

Simon, the more reserved of the two, has truly warmed up to me. During my first visit, he kept mostly to himself, but this time around, he came out from his favorite hiding spots to say hello more often. He even accepted a few long petting sessions, which made me feel incredibly honored. Gaining his trust is a reward in itself.

Life at Their Pace

Overnight stays with this group are a blend of structure and comfort. The dogs enjoy their familiar routines—potty breaks, mealtimes, and lots of outside play—while the cats bring balance and peace to the environment. I made sure everyone was fed, loved, and given plenty of attention (and a few extra treats here and there—Tank insisted).

Evenings were filled with snuggles on the couch and soft music in the background while everyone wound down. It’s moments like those—when the house is quiet, the pets are relaxed, and trust fills the space—that I feel the most gratitude for what I do.

Tank, Gunner, Bella, Johnny, and Simon each have their own unique charm, and I’m already looking forward to our next sleepover.
